A Quick Thought: In Gratitude
I was recently asked by a group of students to offer a prayer in thanksgiving for all of life’s many blessings. I later jotted down my thoughts and polished them a bit. Out of that experience came this prayer in gratitude that I would like to share with you:
A Prayer in Gratitude for Life’s Many Blessings
Divine Mother, Divine Father,
I thank you for life’s many blessings
For blue skies, and white clouds
For soaking rains, and oceans deep and wide
For trees and forests, mountains and streams
For villages, towns and towering cities
Oh Divine Parents,
I also thank you
For siblings, cousins, uncles and aunts,
For good work and co-worker friends
And bountiful meals, and those who prepare them
For a cool drink of lemonade on a hot summer’s day
And clean fresh drinking water all the year round,
For the snows of winter, the breezes of fall, the flowers of spring
For candlelight suppers and café lunches with best friends
I also thank you, Creator God, Spirit of the Universe,
For our families, friends and acquaintances,
And their hugs, kisses and belly rubs
For winged, crawling, burrowing, barking and slithering beings
For stone people, and earth people, and water nymphs, and elves and fairies
For the angels and archangels, saints and bodhisattvas, spirit guides and wise travelers
For the shamans, priests, priestesses and ministers who help us
Find You
And hold Space for us
And help us see the Light
Even in the darkness
For babies and toddlers and kids of all ages
For lesbian, gay, two spirit, bisexual, transgender, and the gender queer,
And for all differently-abled sisters and brothers
I thank you, One Spirit,
For the moon, stars, planets, and galaxies
For worlds beyond ours, and dimensions beyond our understanding
I thank you Creator God, for life’s many blessings
Amen. Ah-ho. Ashe. So be it.
